Poodles are not just a foo-foo dog or a pocket pet for the elite, such as Elvis and Walt Disney. Poodles are wonderful dogs for families or individuals.
Originally bread centuries ago as hunting and water retrieval dogs, have become one of the most popular breeds in the world.
Most often associated with show dogs, most poodles are misunderstood. Some of their most admirable characteristics are being so very smart, loyal, eager to please their people, goofy at times, temperament, agility, guard dog abilities and are hypoallergenic. Poodles come in three sizes: miniature, medium and standard (large). They also come in a variety of different colors and color combinations. Though they may be shy with strangers at first, they are rarely aggressive. They generally do well with other animals in the home and children if introduced appropriately and socialized early. Proper training is a must for all dogs.
Some of the drawbacks could include the high maintenance grooming! However, if tended to regularly/frequently it can be managed, but it can also be expensive. As they are very intelligent, they can easily become bored, suffer separation anxiety and will need regular activity and exercise and games for dogs to exercise their minds.
Through inappropriate inbreeding some poodles have become prone to certain genetic ailments that can be avoided with responsible DNA testing, breeding, proper medical care, nutrition and becoming knowledgeable about the breed.
I have never been more happy with my poodle’s affection and personality. He can be goofy and aloof, but he is the most loyal dog in our pack
